An update

Things are looking a little on the grim side at the moment, although I'm a bit down right now which is probably flavouring my view of the world.

I've hardly run in the last five weeks, and not at all for a few weeks, since I broke down about 2.5k into a run around the Bay a few Sundays back, same issue in the upper right leg. The issue continues to make itself felt when walking down hill.

At this stage, possible culprits include a stress fracture in the right pelvis or neck of the right femur, osteo pubitis or other similar issue (apparently they're diagnosing thigh splints now), or, worst of all, wear and tear in the cartilege/tendons around the right hip joint. If it's the last option, my running career might be finished. I'm currently in 'worst case scenario mode' so things aren't pretty on that front.

So, I had a bone scan Friday last week that I should have results of tomorrow. It's not a good sign when the preferred outcome is a stress fracture. I'll post again when I have news.

I'll spare some positive thoughts for you mate. I hope that the diagnosis isn't as grim as you predict. Fingers and toes crossed in the meantime. :)

On the bright side - it's good to hear from you Vat - I'm looking forward to reading about a positive prognosis.

Chin up mate ;-)

Hope it is not as serious as you think Vat. Hope to hear how the result turns out for the stressie at least.

I can't imagine where your head must be at the moment. I won't tell you to keep your chin up because if someone said that to me in similar circumstances I'd pop 'em one.

Hope it all works out for you.

Fu@k! That's bad news Vat. I never knew your injury was that severe.

I am hoping against hope that it is the lesser of the two evils.

Running isn't everything but when you put as much into it as you have - it comes close.

Thankfully you have a busy time at home coming up in the next few months which may distract you a bit if you have to have a period off.
I wonder with a stressie there what sort of cross training they will recommend?

Take Care and let us know so we can all be miserable or happy with you!

I'll join the optimist's camp and hope that it is something that nothing a little rest and recovery can't resolve.

Gee, and I was so excited to see a '1' next to you in Bloglines :-(

I second (or should that be 14th) what everyone else said. Sending good thoughts you way. Really looking forward to catching up in person next month.
