January update
Things have settled down a bit at home, so thought I might pop up a bit of an update.
December and January were pretty solid from a training and results point of view. I seemed to get good momentum coming out of the SW camp on the South Coast, and January yield two 5k PBs, 17:40 at the January SMC event for second outright and another age group win, and a 17:28 for the State 5000 metres at Homebush the following Thursday night. That was a good, smart run - pretty well right on the pace the whole way through the run, showing that the bulk of the back half of the field goes out too fast.
Problem is, the following Sunday, I got hit by my health issue. Whilst a pain in the arse, it has probably, from a big picture point of view, been of benefit. I have only tonight resumed running, after a solid hilly hitout with Mohammed with a hour ten worth of three repeats of Heartbreak Hill Saturday week ago - sub 37 at Lane Cove on Saturday looks doubtful, but it was only a week so with a bit of luck I haven't lost too much condition. I rolled through 13.58km in just over an hour tonight (with a rush brought on by the last two minutes or so of Radiohead's Where I End and You Begin) and felt okay, but will doubtless be fairly sore tomorrow.
I had a check up plus blood tests done in mid December by my GP (the GP I go to when I'm actually worried about something) which showed good vitamin levels, excellent blood pressure, good immunology, good cholesterol and a mild level of potential food allergy. Problem is, it's a general test against the most likely allergies (gluten, milk products, wheat products, etc.).
Well, after a pretty decent feed of prawns and calamari Saturday week ago, it would seem the allergy is to either of those. Woke up on Sunday feeling like utter rubbish, and ended up taking Tuesday off. Booked an appointment to see an allergist (came highly recommended) in the first week of May!
Apparently adult-onset to shellfish is quite common, so I'll skip those foods (which is a bugger, because I love them!) in the meantime.
That's about the news. I was hoping to run sub 37 on Saturday, and prior to copping this issue again was entertaining mild fantasies of a PB. Suspect that may have to wait, but the speed sessions on Tuesday and Thursday this week will give a guide as to where I am. Cripes, it's only been a week!

Well at least you are downsizing the list of potentials and will be able to eliminate the culprits.
Best of luck in your race. Go hard or go home and just pretend you haven't had any time off :)
